Michael Grant | Design
Michael Grant established Modern Rustic Homes in 1996. Originally from Thomasville, Georgia, Michael now enjoys life in the North Georgia Mountains. His residential design has been published in both national and international magazines. Michael’s Industrial Design degree from Georgia Tech’s College of Architecture shows in his projects, which are a blend of Old World craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology. He sits on the Georgia High Country Builders Association Board of Directors. Michael is married and has a grown daughter.
Joe Dixon | Build
Joe Dixon started his construction business in 1984, in his original home town of Lynnfield just north of Boston, Massachusetts. He joined Michael at Modern Rustic Homes as General Contractor in 1996; together the pair has built over 300 custom homes. Joe builds conventional, hybrid, log, and timber frame homes. His commitment to quality of construction, attention to details, and project management are reflected in the completed custom homes. When he’s not on a job site, Joe is usually busy enjoying family life with his wife and their three children.
Jeri Presta | Client Services Manager
Jeri brings a can-do attitude with cordial service to Modern Rustic Homes clients. Her years in the Financial Services industry prepared her to handle the many tasks involved in keeping client requests and information organized and available as the build project progresses. After many years in Florida she chose to make North Georgia her home and relates wonderfully to our clients that also wish to enjoy the relaxed mountain lifestyle.

My first interview with Michael Grant after deciding to use Modern Rustic Homes to build my log home was amazing. As I told Michael what I was looking for in the design of my cabin he was busy drawing. As we continued to work together more details with his artist ideas and my veto or agreement. Michael was very quick to listen to my ideas and adapting to general design.
Michael Grant and Joe Dixon the builder/contractor were always available for questions. I knew nothing about building a house, was working alone and was able to rely with confidence on this team for guidance. Looking forward to completion of my project very soon.
We are extremely happy that we hired Modern Rustic Homes to design and build our cabin in the mountains. Every step of the process they were very professional, knowledgeable, patient, understanding and helpful assisting us with the build procedure. They are also knowledgeable and helpful with the financing aspect of the project. The companies they suggested we work with to purchase products from, were also friendly and helpful to us.
When the house was being built, and all aspects leading up to the start and thru completion, there was a feeling that the house was also theirs. They looked at the project as if they were building it for themselves. If they felt that something didn’t seem right, maybe should be a different way, they made suggestions that so often were spot on right. They were not pushy, their suggestions made perfect sense and looked and felt great when it was done.
The experience was truly rewarding with this company. We were out of state homeowners, but when and if we needed anything, they were only a phone call away. Even if it was just to answer a question we had. I highly recommend this company to anyone who needs an experienced, knowledgeable and personable contractor/builder/architect for their project. Large or small projects, they treat everyone with the same in a warm, friendly manner.
We collaborated during the entire build, and the result is truly a cozy, light-filled, party-perfect house. The proportions of the rooms, the relationship of the interior to the exterior spaces, and the glorious details are all a result of Michael’s limitless talent.
Thanks to Joe Dixon we know we have a structure that will stand the test of time, and that what is behind the walls is as perfect as what we see. He set a tone on the job site that made every worker strive to do their best. He is truly a problem solver and was able to accommodate the various changes we made during the entire building process. The result….Our Dream Home and Friends Forever!
